Yeah, no clever title this week. Sorry, guys. I didn't add or do too much this week. Even though I did not add much, I will talk about what I did do, and where I plan to go.
This week I added a roof! I mean, it really wasn't that complicated as one would imagine. I just added a large surface that encases the whole map. It will be nothing extravagant, really. It'll probably be one solid color like the actual place. White. Solid white. I also touched up the walls that I was doing quick jobs with. There was a bunch of clipping with walls and such so I went through and move things around. For learning purposes, I will briefly mention clipping. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's when two objects, or parts of two objects vi for a position in the rendering. So in a game, if you see two or more objects flickering while they are on top of each other, it means that they are being shown at the same time. Since they exist on the same pixel or coordinate, the engine tries to compensate and it produces something that just looks strange and tacky. This kind of flaw can be seen a lot in earlier games that first implemented 3D models. Doing touch ups like this, I'm a lot more confident in the art being added...if I can really get that done.
In the upcoming week, I want to see about getting some generic textures (maybe find some keepers) for the wallpaper and floors. We shall see. I also plan on getting a real art asset list for my artist. A real one. Not just a list of random junk that I want him to make. I need to find some solid references on google and post it to Google Drive. It would be good practice for making formal art assets that one needs. Good practice all around. To top that all off, I will begin real testing with my friends. Something I wish I really got the ball rolling on weeks ago. It's one thing playing it by yourself, but balancing it for the real multiplayer experience should be fun. Outside of that, I got nothing else.
I'm happy to have made it this far with this project. I haven't really done much game related stuff since my time at WePlay.Media...which was back in July-early August. So it was a while. I'm glad to be working on stuff again, even if it means just brushing up on random junk. Speaking of WePlay.Media...something tells me I should share my feelings about my experience there. I know a lot of you who know me personally have been around while I worked there. I believe now that I've had a lot of time to think and reflect on my decisions, I feel as though I can communicate my thoughts and feelings a lot more coherently. The four months I worked there were invaluable. Make no mistake. However, it did feel like there were more downs than ups at the time.
If you guys wanna read Sooper Dooper Late Postmortem post about my experiences at WePlay.Media, return here tomorrow (1/28/2016) for a special post! I am sure you won't be disappointed. Or you will, who knows, but I doubt it. I'll be keeping the post as glass door and salt-free as I can. In the mean time, check out some action-shots from my map below! See you then!
