Yeah, yeah. I'm pretty upset this week. But I will warn you, before you read, it's not terrible. No one is getting put on blast, no one or multiple persons are being ridiculed. If you came for juicy gossip, you came to the wrong place. Sorry. On to this week in game deving!
So, within the last week, I stumbled upon a few things while I was looking around for some misc. facts for the editor. $20k. I missed out on that chance to win twenty-thousand dollars. Why? Because I failed to notice a map contest that was being held. First bit of salt there. I don't blame myself for missing it, but it sucks. It's too late for me to submit for a few reasons. 1) White-box among a few other things were due back in November. 2) Finished products were due on February 21st. 3) It just wasn't done. It was a contest through a modding website called ModDB, some of you may heard of it. I know I haven't before a month or so ago trying to find stuff for XCOM2. Anyway, it's lame. I feel like it could have encouraged me more to get things done faster...as well as possibly getting some cash for those student loans! Who's with me on that?! Huh?...hehe. Nevermind. Oh well, maybe next time! Here are some of the cool submissions that you can download that were entered in the contest.
Second piece of salt, and this is real. Not something I just missed out on. I just learned this week that the workshop is down for Killing Floor 2. Some of you may be asking "what's a workshop?". Well, I'll tell ya! It's a medium that a developer puts up for a game on Steam where people can submit mods for games that they made...Like maps. So even though I get my map completed, I wouldn't be able to submit it to the workshop. There are other places, like ModDB, I can upload the map to and people can download it, but it may not get so much notoriety. People are more inclined to look for their mods through the Workshop because it's a lot easier. However, due to some conflicts between UDK and Steam, it only allows for some cosmetic changes and nothing else? It's still weird, at least that's what people on the forums are saying. So, if anything, this could be the possibility behind some of the problems I've had, but of course not all the problems. So, until Tripwire can give some solid support for this, I'll just have to settle putting it up elsewhere so people can download it the hard way. Or showing you guys the classic video and pictures...which are below! Not so much video, but I plan on doing one soon after I finish.
Before I finish up this post, I'd like to say I'm almost done. I have lighting left and that's about it. Set design was done on schedule, and now all that there is left is lighting, and some fixes here and there with the walls... the walls are weird right now. Don't ask, please. It's going to be a tedious task to fix it. But it will be done! If you are wondering about Blind Man, it's getting there. After some mockups are approved, I'm going to work on making the buttons and pages this weekend. So, that's it for now. Till next time!
Oh, one more thing. If you guys think I should try a video for some of this including my process, give me some feedback. Will it be a good idea? Is it something you guys are interested in seeing from me? Let me know!
