Hello again, everyone! This week I will be talking more about my level (it's almost done, I swear!)...and something else. Some would say this is an "old" project, which it really is. With GDC less than a month away, I'm raring to go.
I'm so very close. I just want to open with that. After all the procrastination and whining, I'm almost done with this level. I ran into a few hiccups, but that's okay. I've...worked around them. Over the last week I figured out how to fix the issue of prefabs. It was more or less me messing up the saving paths. So, that's cool. Make sure you always save to the correct place...always! However, the issue of custom textures are still an issue. I tried making a material, didn't work. Actually followed Tripwire's (Killing Floor's developer) wiki, and nothing. After trolling some forums, I learned that it is apparently really difficult and finicky to make custom textures for the game. The fact that the custom textures won't load is kind of a pain, and I sort of gave up on it. Yeah, yeah, I know. "Bad, Tyler. Not good!". But hey, you may think it wasn't too bad of an idea when you scroll down. After seriously looking around and looking at what the editor had, the have most of what I need. It's not too bad. After some finagling, and some proper lighting, it'll look super dope...if I do say so myself. *Small sidetrack, you should go watch the movie "Dope" if you haven't already. If you have Netflix, you have no excuse, it's on there.* Anyway...where was I? Oh yeah, Plaza. Yes, I named the map more or less after the real place. If you have questions about the real place it was based on, I'll be more than happy to answer them in a pm. Why I choose to not disclose the name in public...well...that can also be covered in a pm...I also just don't feel like talking about it now. Maybe another time. My plan for this week and the next is two words: SET DESIGN...and lighting. So that's three. But, I want to get at least the set design down pat by the next post. That is a promise! Lighting last, then I'll be officially done. When you are viewing the screenshots, feel free to make fun of me or offer feedback. I'm open to anything. Really. Call me garbage, as long as you say why it's garbage. That way, I'll improve! Any sort of work can be improved, just ask anyone.
As for that "something else" I mentioned earlier. My programmer buddy and I have started work on Blind Man!...yeah that thing I said I'd get working forever ago. Well, it's in the works as I type. We finally got movement working...again. Among a few other things this week. I plan on making a few pages that look a lot better. I just hope it gets working before I go to GDC. I have faith. It's supposed to be a small project, as in we just get the basic functions working and that's it. It isn't meant to take too long. I expect it to be done within a few weeks. Don't give me that look. Everything will be fine, I promise. It better. I need something else that's playable considering MotoGP will be delayed...again. I'll let you guys know how that's coming along next week.
